New Laposte Email Rules: What Senders Need to Know About SPF, DKIM, DMARC
Email authentication changes at Laposte.net
Laposte.net is one of France’s leading email service providers, operated by La Poste Group and serving millions of users with a private email address. As part of ongoing efforts to enhance email security and safeguard users from phishing and spoofing scams, laposte.net introduced mandatory email authentication requirements starting in September 2025.
The change was announced on August 22, 2025 in a LinkedIn post by Simon Bressier, Postmaster of laposte.net.
Anyone communicating with laposte.net email addresses is required to implement email authentication protocols SPF, DKIM and DMARC. Emails failing these checks will be considered spam, which may significantly impact deliverability if not remediated.
What are SPF, DKIM and DMARC?
- SPF (Sender Policy Framework) verifies the mail servers authorised to send messages on behalf of a domain.
- DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a digital signature to emails, allowing recipients to confirm the message’s integrity and source.
- DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) builds on SPF and DKIM, instructing receiving servers on how to handle emails that fail authentication, thereby protecting domains against fraudulent use.
Why is this change important
Previously, some emails delivered with no authentication mechanisms could still reach user inboxes at laposte.net, increasing the risk of receiving phishing or spoofing emails.
Starting in September 2025, any emails that fail these checks will be sent directly to the spam folder. This means that if the sender’s email domain lacks proper SPF, DKIM and DMARC setup, messages may never arrive in the recipients’ inboxes.
This change is essential for deliverability, brand protection and maintaining trust with organisations’ recipients. It applies to all senders, whether individuals, businesses, or those sending transactional or marketing emails, with no exceptions.
If your organisation operates in France, there may be additional requirements regarding your email infrastructure. For more information, please check our page on DMARC mandates: https://dmarcian.com/dmarc-mandates/
